SeedMapper - A Chrome Browser Plugin for Discovering The World
SeedMapper is a tool that makes possible the creation of a web map, each time you open a new tab, that connects the location of the sample to its place of origin, using Google Maps. The idea is to show the connection between the land and the seed, by giving the seeds a new perspective on the place from where they were harvested.
SeedMapper is a Chrome browser plugin that, each time you open a new tab, will take a seed sample from the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and generate satellite imagery from the location from which it was harvested.
This experiment tries to connect the seeds stored in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault with their place of origin, and to show the relationship between Svalbard and the wider world.
SeedMapper is a tool that enables you to travel to strange, distant, and often forgotten corners of the world, by enabling you to easily locate the location of samples stored in the Svalbard Seed Vault.
SeedMapper helps you to connect your own samples with the place where they were harvested, in order to learn more about them and the effort that is invested in preserving healthy biodiversity, and safeguarding the food supply.
SeedMapper brings attention to the fact that how seeds are managed has to do with both global and local efforts that need to happen over many decades and centuries.
